Founders scaling their first company, family businesses navigating succession, and boards working through shareholder tension all face a version of the same problem: governance treated as a compliance checkbox rather than a strategic capability. Roger reframes it as the latter, helping organisations move past complexity and short-term thinking toward something built to last.
He’s a governance advisor and non-executive director based in Cape Town with over 35 years in business, having trained and consulted physically across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritius, Uganda, Lesotho and Ghana, with additional online engagements spanning more than a dozen further countries. He’s the architect of the Adaptive Governance Methodology and the Flourishing Business Framework, supported by the Three Organising Systems and Three Horizons Governance Planning Model, frameworks built to integrate purpose, strategy, governance, management and organisational performance across every stage of a business’s development. He’s authored “Flourishing: The Ultimate Guide to Working ON Your Business,” and served with the Institute of Directors South Africa from 2015 to 2023 and the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa from 1996 to 2015.
His governance, strategy and board effectiveness programmes have been used by hundreds of directors and executives across more than 20 countries, spanning entrepreneurial ventures, multinational financial institutions, family offices and public sector entities. Client confidentiality runs deep in this work, so most engagements stay unnamed, but they include pan-African banking and insurance groups, listed companies and government entities across South Africa, East and West Africa.
Roger works best with leaders willing to challenge conventional thinking, and who understand that sustainable success comes from cultivating an organisation deliberately, not just growing it.
